A quick “how to” on using RSS news feeds

I have been getting a lot of comments about the RSS news feeds on our website and how to use the. Below is a quick “how to” on using RSS news and how to leverage the information to your advantage.

What are News Feeds?
They allow you to see when websites have added new content. You can get the latest headlines as soon as there published without having to visit the website. These News Feeds are also known as RSS (Really Simple Syndication). RSS is an XML-based format for sharing and distributing Web content, such as news headlines.
How do I start using feeds?
The first thing you need is a news reader. This is a software program that checks the feeds and lets you read any news articles that have been added.
I use the Feedreader 3.05, because it’s very simple to use and best of all it’s free. Go to http://www.feedreader.com/ and download your free copy.
I downloaded the news reader…now what?
Now you have to choose what content you want it to receive. One way is to visit your favorite website and click on their RSS news feed button. This will take you to their news feed URL. Cut and paste the same URL into your news feed reader. Most sites that offer feeds use a small orange button or . . .
Another way is to go to http://news.google.com/ and type in your keyword search. After clicking the “search news” button you will get the latest news that match your keywords. Click on the “RSS” text in the left navigation bar to show the keyword search URL. Cut and paste the same URL into your news feed reader.
Why use News Feeds?
Get the latest news that you want to see based on your keyword automatically sent to your news reader. The news comes to you, instead of you spending valuable time sifting through the internet.
